Social Awareness Events: Six european countries have been selected

Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and Sweden will be the countries in charge of organizing and hosting the social awareness events in order to disseminate organ donation culture. These events will take place from autumn 2018 to spring 2019; the complete calendar of events will be published in this page as soon as it becomes available.

The six European countries were proposed on basis of the following criteria:

  • Good balance between Nordic/Southern, Western/Eastern European countries.
  • Participation in different European Organ Exchange Organisations.
  • Covering a spread of different donation rates (from 4,7 in Greece to 32,7 in Portugal).
  • Commitment and active support from the national Competent Authority.

The proposal was submitted and subsequently approved during the Informal Meeting of Competent Authorities (Rome, Italy, January 15-16, 2018) and the intermediate meeting held with DG Sante in Brussels on April 6, 2018.
