Social Awareness Events: Six european countries have been selected

Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and Sweden will be the countries in charge of organizing and hosting the social awareness events in order to disseminate organ donation culture. These events will take place from autumn 2018 to spring 2019; the complete calendar of events will be published in this page as soon as it becomes available.

The six European countries were proposed on basis of the following criteria:

  • Good balance between Nordic/Southern, Western/Eastern European countries.
  • Participation in different European Organ Exchange Organisations.
  • Covering a spread of different donation rates (from 4,7 in Greece to 32,7 in Portugal).
  • Commitment and active support from the national Competent Authority.

The proposal was submitted and subsequently approved during the Informal Meeting of Competent Authorities (Rome, Italy, January 15-16, 2018) and the intermediate meeting held with DG Sante in Brussels on April 6, 2018.

Poland – September 14th 2018: 14 donors pmp. Member States and neighbouring countries to be invited: Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia.

Hungary (belongs to Eurotransplant – 18,6 donor pmp)
January 14th 2019; time: 9:00 – 16.30; venue: Hotel Danubius Helia, Budapest.

Brief description of the event: National and international experts will share their knowledge with participants in order to increase the awareness and knowledge on organ donation and spread organ donation culture among health care professionals and other stakeholders, such as representatives of MoH, journalists and patient groups from Hungary and neigbouring countries, including Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. The scope of EUDONORGAN project and European activities in the field of Organ Donation and Transplantation will be presented by international experts from EUDONORGAN project leaders and EC in the morning session of the event. National medical experts will present state of the art of living and deceased organ donation in Hungary followed by stories of a living donor, an organ recipient, donor family and representative of patient association. Representatives of all participating countries will have an opportunity to present obstacles for organ donation in their respective countries at the round table.
The afternoon session will be dedicated to the role of media and impact of media on organ and tissue donation. Experts from Hungary on Social media and adverse publicity will share their views and knowledge. The most successful stories and actions covered by hungarian media will be presented at the round table.

Sweden (belongs to Scandiatransplant – 19.7 donors pmp)
March 14th 2019; Time: 9:00 – 16:30; Venue: Piperska Muren, Stockholm, Sweden.

Brief description of the event: National and international experts will share their knowledge with participants in order to increase the the awareness and knowledge on organ donation and spread organ donation culture among health care professionals and other stakeholders, such as representatives of MoH, journalists and patient groups from Sweden and neigbouring countries, including Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Estonia. The scope of EUDONORGAN project and European activities in the field of Organ Donation and Transplantation will be presented by international experts from EUDONORGAN project leaders and EC in the morning session of the event. National medical experts will present state of the art of living and deceased organ donation in Sweden followed by representatives of all participating countries, who will present the state of the art in their respective countries. Testimony from living organ donor and recipient from Swedish royal family and family testimony will close the morning session.
The afternoon session will be dedicated to the role of media and impact of media on organ and tissue donation. Slovene expert, dr. Tanja Kamin, the international expert on Social media, will share her extensive knowledge in this field.
